Look Away: Neuroticism and the Art of Dodging Self-Comparison
Poster Session X
Sunday May 25, 2025 (09:00 - 10:00 ET)
Keyword: Attention and DistractionAbstract: This study used eye-tracking to examine how personality traits, particularly neuroticism, predict attention to positive and negative ipsative (self-to-self), normative (self-to-others), and expectation-based (self-to-expectation) evaluations of dependability and outgoingness. Participants showed greater attention to ipsative and expectation-based comparisons, while neuroticism predicted avoidance of self-threatening normative feedback.
