Readers of Science News Are Overconfident in New Study Findings, Even When the Findings Are Implausible and Isolated.
Poster Session V
Friday May 23, 2025 (19:30 - 20:30 ET)
Keyword: Decision MakingAbstract: Participants (n = 600) read science news articles that varied the plausibility and amount of evidence supporting a new weight loss therapy. Confidence was relatively high, even for an implausible therapy not supported by most of the evidence. Individual differences in intolerance of uncertainty and education did not influence judgements.
