Affective Response Accuracy and Emotion Regulation Influence Short-Term Blood Pressure Variability

Abstract: We investigated associations of blood pressure variability (BPV) with emotional reactivity and regulation. Fifty-four participants (37 Females, M_age=21.5) completed an emotional perception task and the Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (ERQ). High affective accuracy and usage of suppression jointly predicted high BPV, suggesting a mechanism of adverse health outcomes of maladaptive ER.
