Keyword: MemoryAbstract: Words processed for survival relevance are better recalled than words processed for relevance to other themes (Nairne et al., 2007). The current study examined how emotion state words (e.g., cheer; anger) are processed in the survival paradigm. Our findings indicate the survival advantage may be moderated by negatively-valenced emotion-state words.
