Insults from Racial Ingroup and the Highly Attractive Stick in Memory More Than Compliments

Keyword: MemoryAbstract: This study tests whether compliments or insults make a face more memorable and whether such comments mitigate the cross-race effect. Using 72 White participants, insult-paired faces were more memorable. Moreover, the CRE was mitigated when Black and White faces were paired with compliments, but not when paired with insults.
