Submission Categories

Symposium

A focused session in which individual speakers present their research on a common topic. Symposia should have the dual goals of providing diversity of perspective and integrating those perspectives into a meaningful whole. A symposium includes a chair, 3–4 presenters, a discussant (optional), and is scheduled in an 80-minute session.

Submitted Talk

An individual presentation delivered by a primary researcher in a particular area of psychological science. Each Submitted Talk is 15 minutes total, which includes a 10-12 minute presentation with slides, followed by a 3-minute audience Q&A session. Submitted Talks will be grouped together and scheduled consecutively within 80-minute sessions to form a cohesive session around a common theme.

Flash Talk

A 5-minute individual presentation with slides, grouped by topic into 50-minute sessions, with time for 1–2 audience questions after each talk. Completed empirical research only (data collection and analysis completed by the time of submission) will be accepted. The selection process is highly selective. Flash Talk that are rejected may present a poster.

Standard Poster

An informal, interactive presentation in which presenters display their work on a physical poster and engage in one-on-one or small-group conversations. Posters are grouped by topic and scheduled in 50-minute poster sessions. Completed empirical research only (data collection and analysis completed by the time of submission) will be accepted. Nonempirical research should not be submitted as a poster.

Pilot Project Poster

Formerly the Research Proposal Poster, the Pilot Project Posters should showcase early-stage research with some data collection completed OR plans for a future research study where data collection has not yet begun OR where an analytic plan has been established but has not yet begun. This format provides an opportunity to share initial findings, gather feedback, and refine methodology before full-scale implementation OR receive early feedback on your research study plan.

Submissions should describe a  research study plan in detail, including hypotheses, study design, participant recruitment (if applicable), procedure, analysis framework or statistical plan, and expected or preliminary results. Presenters are encouraged to discuss challenges, next steps, and potential directions for future work. Posters are grouped by topic and scheduled in a 50-minute poster session.

Teaching Poster

Teaching posters pertain to the teaching of psychological science, including teaching techniques, innovations, evaluation, and philosophy. These posters are scheduled on Thursday as part of the pre-conference Teaching Institute, which requires an additional registration fee.
