APS Editorial Fellowship Program: Call for Applications

Deadline: January 31, 2024

APS is pleased to announce our new Editorial Fellowship Program (EFP). This program aims to increase opportunities for members of groups historically underrepresented in editorial leadership roles. The program will help Fellows to develop their skills as an editor and progress in their editorial ambitions, with an overarching goal of creating a supportive pipeline to editorial leadership and ultimately developing a more diverse and representative pool of journal editors in our field. We encourage applications from members of groups that are historically underrepresented among psychology journal editors, including but not limited to membership based on race, ethnicity, sexuality or gender identity, and/or geography.

Two Editorial Fellows will be assigned to each of APS’s three primarily empirical journals, Psychological Science, Clinical Psychological Science, and Advances in Methods and Practices in Psychological Science. Each Fellow will be paired with an editor mentor at the journal who will be available for consultation and discussion regarding any of the editorial tasks for the manuscripts assigned to the Fellow.

With the help of a mentor, Fellows will complete all the editorial tasks typically required of an Associate Editor, including but not limited to completing an initial evaluation of a submitted manuscript, selecting and inviting reviewers to evaluate the manuscript, and synthesizing reviews, and writing decision letters. All Fellows will participate in a monthly Zoom call with the Editors-in-Chief of the three journals.

Interested candidates should have a Ph.D. There are no baseline requirements for candidates regarding current job sector (i.e., in academia or industry), career stage, or editorial experience, but candidates will be asked in their application to provide materials that are representative of their research, scholarly writing, and/or reviews.

Fellowships will run for one year and Fellows will receive a US$1,000 stipend. The deadline for applications is January 31, 2024.
