New Editor-in-Chief at Psychological Science in the Public Interest
APS is pleased to announce that Ulf-Dietrich Reips has been selected as the next Editor-in-Chief of Psychological Science in the Public Interest (PSPI). Reips is a Full Professor in the Department of Psychology at University of Konstanz, Germany. Reips pioneered Internet-based research in the 1990s with the first online lab for experimentation and co-created the vision of open science long before that term was coined. He and his team conduct methodological work serving the research community and develop and provide free Web tools for researchers, teachers, students, and the public. He supports open science in ways that are practical and that do not police academic freedom.
As Editor-in-Chief, Reips will pursue topics that are timeless, important, useful, and thus sometimes become very current. Topics will address both longstanding and emerging challenges and opportunities facing us and our world, including psychology of probabilities, feeling positive emotions, psychology and artificial intelligence. These topics are not only relevant and interesting to the general public, but also to the psychological science community and to the interdisciplinary and international audiences that PSPI aims to reach. He also welcomes suggestions and proposals from the Editorial Board, APS leadership, and PSPI authors and readers for other topics that fit the journal’s mission and scope.
Reips served as the Founding Editor of the International Journal of Internet Science and an Associate Editor for SAGE Open. He is a Consulting Editor for Behavior Research Methods and Cognitive Research: Principles and Implications. He has also served on the Editorial Boards of Zeitschrift für Psychologie, Open Psychology, International Journal of Internet Research Ethics, psychologie.de and Humanities and Social Sciences Communications. Look for an interview with Reips in coming weeks to learn more about his Editorial Board and vision for PSPI.
Reips will begin his term as Editor-in-Chief on July 1, 2025, and all new proposals and inquiries should be directed to him. The outgoing Editor-in-Chief, Nora Newcombe, will continue to work with authors who have submitted proposals or have articles under commission through December 31, 2025.
