Inaugural Editor-in-Chief Appointed for Advances in Psychological Science Open

APS is pleased to announce that Rachael E. Jack, PhD, has been selected as the inaugural Editor-in-Chief of Advances in Psychological Science Open (APSO). Jack is Professor of Computational Social Cognition in the School of Psychology & Neuroscience at the University of Glasgow. Her research focuses on human social signaling and communication, with a focus on facial expressions across cultures. Her interdisciplinary approach bridges vision science, cognitive science, social and cultural psychology, 3D computer graphics, communication theory, AI, and social robotics.

Her leadership approach is firmly rooted in valuing diversity, exercising intellectual humility, and “leading from the back,” all of which resulted in receiving the Athena Swan Silver Award for EDI in the School of Psychology & Neuroscience at the University of Glasgow.

Jack has a strong background in publishing (including as an Associate Editor for Psychological Science and Journal of Experimental Psychology: General), and she has served on prestigious panels such as the European Research Council and the Marcel Benoist Swiss Science Prize, and providing over 500 ad-hoc reviews across nearly 100 journals and funding agencies (NSF, UKRI, Wellcome Trust, ISF, MRC).

Jack has served as the co-chair of APS’s Global Engagement Committee since 2022 (her term concludes in August 2025) and was the APS Board Secretary from 2021-2024. She began her term as Editor-in-Chief on February 15, 2025.
