Call for Nominations
Editor-in-Chief, Clinical Psychological Science
Deadline: March 7, 2025
The Association for Psychological Science (APS) invites nominations for Editor(s)-in-Chief of Clinical Psychological Science (CPS). CPS publishes advances in clinical psychological science and provides a venue for cutting-edge research across a wide range of conceptual views, approaches, and topics.
This bimonthly journal encompasses the many core domains that have defined clinical psychological science worldwide, but CPS prioritizes manuscripts that are interdisciplinary and bring the best available basic science from within psychology and outside of it (e.g., sociology, anthropology, genetics, neuroscience, microbiology) to bear on our understanding of psychopathology. Among the key topics addressed in the journal are research on the mechanisms and etiologies of psychological health and dysfunction; basic and applied work on the diagnosis, assessment, treatment, and prevention of mental illness; conceptual, historical, and meta-scientific perspectives on clinical psychological science; and promotion of psychological well-being.
Clinical Psychological Science has become a leading journal in psychological science and an influence on fields ranging from mental health to cognitive neuroscience. Attracting authors and readers from all over the world, the journal receives over 300 submissions annually, has expanded from quarterly to bimonthly publication, and published special series on such topics as emotions and psychopathology, computational psychiatry, and clinical judgment and prediction. Further information about CPS, including past issues and aims and scope, is available on the APS website here.
Selection Criteria: Nominees must have had an APS membership in the last four years. Criteria to be considered in selecting the Editor(s) will include:
- Comprehensive knowledge of and broad perspective on the field of clinical psychological science
- Understanding and appreciation of the many relevant disciplines (e.g., psychology and its relevant non-clinical subdisciplines; psychiatry; neurology; genetics; neuroscience; sociology; public health)
- Professional accomplishment and identity within psychological science
- Demonstrated research, writing, reviewing, and managerial skills
- Significant editorial experience
- Commitment to devoting time to editorial duties
- Interest in increasing authors from underrepresented subfields or regions in psychological science, particularly globally
- APS is seeking applications across the spectrum of clinical psychological science and would consider co-editor (team) applicants
Starting Date: The Editor(s) should be prepared to begin handling all new submissions on January 1, 2026. The initial length of the term is four years.
Nominations: Please provide a name and contact information for each person you nominate to the Search Committee at [email protected] by March 7, 2025, with the subject line “CPS Editor Search.” Additional material may be sent, including curricula vitae and brief statements of interest or support, but at this point in the process, a name and contact information are sufficient. Please consider the broad, global nature of our field in nominating colleagues. Self-nominations are encouraged, as are nominations of members of underrepresented groups in psychological science.
