Convey the importance of psychological science or your research specifically to someone outside of the field. What makes it interesting and exciting?

The APS Advocacy Task Force invites psychological scientists to participate in a social media video competition designed to bring the importance of psychological science to the public.  

Psychological science offers powerful insights into how people think, feel, and behave, and this project aims to mobilize scientists to communicate their stories, their research, and the real-world impact of their work through compelling, accessible social media content that goes beyond the field.  

What to Share in Your Video 

Your story is a vital part of promoting psychological science. In your video, consider: 

  • What should the public know about your research? 
  • Why is your research important, and how does it make a difference in people’s lives? 

How to Enter  

  1. Share a (max) 2-minute video on Bluesky or Instagram using #WhyPsychScience now through January 12, 2026.
  2. Tag APS in your post. Instagram: @psychscience; Bluesky: @psychscience.bsky.social 
  3. Fill out the submission form
  4. Be sure to accurately represent the science and be creative! 

Prizes 

  • 1st Place: Complimentary registration to the 2026 APS Annual Convention, one-year APS membership, your video showcased at the 2026 Annual Convention.  
  • 2ndPlace:Complimentary registration to the 2026 APS convention and one-year APS membership.   
  • 3rd Place: One-year APS membership.   

Our Goal 

Together, we can expand the visibility and relevance of psychological science in the public conversation—showing how our field informs everyday life, shapes policy, and deepens understanding of human behavior.
