Where and when is the 2022 APS Annual Convention and APS-STP Teaching Institute?

The 2022 APS Annual Convention will take place at the Hyatt Regency Chicago hotel, Chicago, Illinois, USA, from May 26-29, 2022. The APS-STP Teaching Institute, also taking place at the Hyatt Regency Chicago hotel, will start Wednesday, May 25 with an evening workshop, and will continue all day Thursday, May 26.

A limited block of rooms at the Hyatt Regency Chicago will be available at an exclusive APS discounted rate – book by May 6 to receive the APS rate.

Why will the APS Convention be an in-person event, rather than virtual or hybrid?

APS decided to hold an in-person Convention based on the latest developments in the COVID-19 pandemic, including widely available vaccines, universities and schools returning to in-person instruction, and travel restrictions being lifted. APS will continue to monitor the situation to ensure the health and safety of our attendees.

What if the APS Convention is canceled in 2022?

APS plans to hold this meeting in person but reserves the right to cancel or reschedule this event or convert to a virtual event if government health and safety regulations necessitate doing so. If plans for the event change, we will update all registrants by email as well as on our website.

What are the Onsite Guidelines and Mask Policy?

APS will continue to monitor developments to promote the health and safety of our attendees. We are setting these guidelines to provide clarity, consistency, and the safest venue possible for those participating in the Convention. So that attendees can make informed decisions before coming to the convention, APS intends to maintain the following mask policy and onsite guidelines:

  • APS requires all attendees, guests, and speakers at the 2022 Annual Convention wear a mask in the meeting space except when eating and drinking.
  • Speakers in meeting rooms will be able to choose whether to mask when presenting, with the agreement of all panelists.
  • Poster presenters should stay masked except when eating and drinking.
  • All event attendees and guests should bring their own masks to comply with this mask requirement.
  • There will be hand sanitizer stations located throughout the event space.
  • When possible, meeting rooms in which convention programming takes place will be arranged to allow social distancing.
  • The Hyatt’s ventilation methods are approved by the CDC and utilizes electrostatic charge to trap and block 98% of airborne particles.  The hotel uses Merv 13 filters with maximum outside air.
