There Is a Physiological Synchronicity Among Individuals Engaged in Mutual Compassion

Eighty healthy college volunteers were randomly assigned to 40 pairs. Simultaneous electrocardiograms (ECG) were measured during the mutual compassion and control conditions of each pair. There were significantly higher correlation coefficients of time-series ECG RR intervals between pairs during the stages of mutual compassion than during the simple mindfulness meditation.
