Emotional Arousal, Self-Consciousness, and Altruism: The Role of Personality

Participants were placed within a virtual working relationship to observe instances of altruism. After viewing a 65 second, emotionally arousing video (negative/positive), they were randomly assigned to one of two social consciousness conditions (bystanders existing vs. eye-presenting) to observe their altruistic behavior toward employees. Results and implications are discussed.
