To Cancel or be Cancelled: An Investigation into University Students’ Perspectives on Cancel Culture

Despite its popularity, little is known about the use of online public shaming following a social norm transgression, often referred to as ‘cancel culture.’ The proposed study seeks to understand how moral foundations, moral grandstanding motivations, and attitudes toward punishment predict support for ‘cancelling’ an individual depicted in a vignette.
