Abstract

Does self-disclosure in the classroom impact students’ perceptions of lectures and instructors? Participants read vignettes and rated the professors on statements derived from existing scales. Disclosing bisexuality yielded lower positive ratings and higher stigma ratings relative to self-disclosure of breast cancer and controls. Students may not view all self-disclosures equally.
