A Foreign Threat: Hindrance to Goal Striving Predicts Negative Attitude Toward Immigrants

While perceived threats are often used to explain intergroup attitudes, the motivational factors underlying threat perception are understudied. Drawing from goal systems and self-determination theories, we demonstrate that psychological need frustrations are an antecedent of negative evaluation of immigrants.
