Going Beyond the Call of Duty: Supererogation and Meaning in Life

The present research examines consequences of and motivations behind performing supererogation (moral behavior that goes beyond duty). Three studies show preliminary evidence that meaning may be important in guiding supererogation - supererogation predicted meaning in life, and the need for meaning predicted performance of supererogatory behaviors.
