Women Expect Lower Pay Than Men in Anonymous Online Platforms

We demonstrate that women’s pay expectations are significantly lower than mens’ on gender-blind online platforms, despite accounting for age, occupation, education, and income. We propose that a gender wage gap arises in workplaces that lack structural discrimination via these differential pay expectations, themselves driven by inequality in the traditional workplace.
