Abstract
Young adults perceived genital-sexual swear words as more offensive than excretory or religious swear words, and swear words used aggressively as more offensive than those used cathartically or idiomatically. For both sexes, more frequent use of taboo language was associated with holding permissive attitudes toward engaging in casual sex.
