The Psychological Mechanism of Infrahumanization of Suicide Attempt Survivors: A Survey of Crisis Service Providers and Laypeople

Crisis responders and laypeople infrahumanized suicide attempt survivors by attributing them less uniquely human emotions compared to emotions thought to be shared with animals. Perceiving suicide attempt survivors as having low agency and the use of harmful treatment led to more infrahumanization by crisis responders but not by undergraduate students.
