Abstract

We examined the cognitive mechanisms underlying the relation between intrusive parenting and externalizing behaviors in toddlers from low-income families (N = 1,292, Mage = 35 months). We demonstrate via structural equation modeling that inhibitory control abilities—a latent factor based on multiple measures—serves a critical mediating role.
