Living a Lie: Impression Management and Self-Deception Increase Death-Related Concerns

The awareness of one's death usually leads to anxiety through heightened death-thought accessibility. This study aimed at examining whether self-deception interacted with mortality salience to affect death-thought accessibility. Results showed that people who were high in trait self-deception responded to mortality awareness with higher death-thought accessibility than other people.
