Abstract

The Better-Than-Average Effect (BTAE) was observed in 44 preschoolers, aged 2.5 to 5, regarding the traits, smart and nice. Wishful-thinking best explained results. Findings raise significant questions about the evolutionary value of BTAE and its effect on human behavior.
