The Importance of Appropriate Risk Assignment for Sexual Offenders

Assigning higher magnitudes of risk than appropriate for sexual offenders negatively impacts reentry into the community. Therefore, it is important that risk assignment committees assess and assign risk appropriately. Using a sample of 558 convicted sex offenders, analyses confirmed a trend in risk assignment consistent with recidivism rates.
