People Quit Relationships: Not When It’s Hard, but When It’s Wise

We explored the reasons individuals provided for pursuing and disengaging from a romantic relationship. Undergraduate students’ (N =114) listed reasons for pursuing and ceasing to pursue a romantic relationship (Nreasons= 812). Three coders subsequently classified the open-ended reasons each participant gave, as well as to whom they attributed these reasons.
