Abstract

Popular media describes the Mandela Effect as a set of widely and confidently held false memories. We used old/new recognition, two-alternative forced choice, and cued recall to examine how widespread some popular examples of this effect are. Each experiment found evidence of people misremembering events related to the Mandela Effect.
