Older Adults Can Handle Funny S**T: Age and Psychosocial Variables Predict Reactions to Highly Emotional Language

We investigated how age and psychosocial factors like religiosity and political viewpoints affect ratings of highly emotional words on their tabooness, humor, and arousal. Results suggest that all ratings are affected by individual differences in emotional reactivity, which declines with age and is independently affected by psychosocial factors.
