Social Class—Not Income Inequality—Predicts Social and Institutional Trust

Using a series of large-scale representative surveys, we found two sets of consistent findings: (i) the effects of social class on trust partly depended on the way it was measured; (ii) the effects of income inequality on trust were systematically nonsignificant and smaller than the smallest negative effect of interest.
