Examining Negative Psychotherapy Effects in College Students

Relatively little is known about negative therapy outcomes, especially in college students seeking counseling. Client/treatment characteristics associated with deterioration in anxiety, depression, alcohol use, and hostility were examined in student clients, with nearly ¼ of clients reporting at least some deterioration. Implications may include individualizing treatment and progress monitoring.
