Yesterday's Sun Can't Dry Today's Clothes, or Can It? — Priming People with Their Past Experience of Overcoming Adversity Promotes Their Persistence

We investigated whether persistence increases after recalling experiences of successful hardship management. In Study 1, results demonstrated that participants recalled their experience of overcoming difficulties persisted longer than participants read a neutral story. In Study 2, results demonstrated that persistence was enhanced only when priming participants with self-relevant hardship experience.
