Does It Make You or Break You? the Influence of Expected Challenges and Rewards on the Motivation and Experience Associated with Cognitive Effort Exertion

How motivated are people by a challenging task goal and by potential rewards, and how do these affect their experience of performing the task? We found that people exerted more mental effort, and experienced more stress, when a task was more difficult and more reward was at stake.
