Abstract

In number line estimation, the left digit effect (LDE) refers to numerals with different leftmost digits (e.g., 399/401) being placed farther apart than warranted. We tested whether competitive summary feedback reduces the LDE (N=146). Participants receiving feedback had improved accuracy relative to a control group, but the LDE was unchanged.
