Abstract
Do partisans who befriend members of the political outgroup receive backlash from their ingroup? In two preregistered experimental studies (N = 653), we find that liberal participants perceive other liberals who affiliate with conservatives as being more conservative in their ideology, and in turn, judge these ingroup members more negatively.
