The Picture Superiority Effect on Associative Memory: Picture-Function Pairs Facilitate the Learning of Abstruse Terms in Biological Psychology

We invited college students to learn either 12 picture-function pairs or 12 word-function pairs using materials from biological psychology and then tested their memory performance. Our results demonstrated that pairing the function description with an anatomical picture significantly facilitated both recall and recognition performance on abstruse terms.
