Fidelity to the Inhibitory Learning Model, Functionality, and Availability of Free Anxiety Treatment Smartphone Apps

440 free smartphone apps advertising anxiety disorder treatment were assessed for functionality and inhibitory learning model fidelity. Functionality was poor. Only 12% included an intervention strategy and <3% mentioned exposure therapy. None were consistent with empirically based protocols for exposure. Most violated established principles by recommending avoidance and/or neutralizing behaviors.
