Professional Identity Partially Mediates Advisor Influence on Doctoral Degree Completion Intentions in Graduate Engineers

Abstract
Advisor relationship significantly predicts intentions to complete an engineering Ph.D. Linear regression with Sobel Test analyzed the mediation of the prediction by professional identity variables. The researcher identity domain performance/competence sub-construct partially mediated the relationship (p < .0001). However, engineer domain performance/competence did not significantly mediate the relationship.
