The Effect of Episodic and Semantic Autobiographical Memory on Nostalgia

This study investigated the arousal of nostalgia through memories lying along the continuum of abstraction between episodic and semantic autobiographical memory. Thirty-four participants evaluated sentences containing unique events, repeated events, self-knowledge, and autobiographical facts. The results showed that apart from unique events, repeated events and autobiographical facts also induced nostalgia.
