Participants Do Not Accurately Report Posttraumatic Growth When Guided through the Required Cognitive Steps

Abstract
Self-reporting posttraumatic growth (PTG) requires four cognitive steps. We tested whether respondents go through these four steps. The results suggest they do not. We also examined what happens when we guide respondents through these four steps. The results suggest respondents are unable to accurately self-report PTG, even when guided.
