Emotion Dynamics As Predictors of Drinking Behavior: Idiographic and Pooled Approaches

Abstract
We applied within- and between-subject classification methods to idiographic time series of emotion ratings and drinking behavior. Person-specific prediction models exceeded between-subject models in prediction accuracy for predicting drinking behavior in holdout data. Utilizing person-specific emotion and emotion dynamics may improve prediction of future substance use.
