Abstract
We examined whether cortisol response to stress varies by value of nervousness across cultures. Higher perceived utility of nervousness predicted faster initial cortisol recovery. We also found cultural difference in cortisol recovery. Findings highlight the role of valuation of nervousness and culture in hormonal responses to stress.
