Abstract
During catastrophes, many people sacrifice their safety and resources to connect with other people and restore symbolic meaning. This research will test if feelings of horror increase motivations to restore symbolic meaning and social connectedness following a disaster, relative to self-defensive fear and punitive moral disgust.
