Growth Mindsets Reduce the Negative Effects of Gender Stereotypes on Students’ STEM Motivation

Abstract
STEM-gender stereotypes (e.g., “math is for boys”) can dissuade girls from pursuing STEM degrees. However, our findings show that high school girls who endorse growth mindsets are more protected from the negative effects of gender stereotypes on ability self-concepts and sense of belonging in STEM.
