Abstract
We examined the influence of categorization and stereotyping on young children’s inductions. Participants sorted pictures according to gender, gender stereotypes, or shirt color prior to a triad generalization task. Children in the Stereotype condition generalized on the basis of gender, but performance was inconsistent in the absence of stereotyping
