Identifying Language Styles Associated with Depressive Symptoms Among College Students Utilizing Text Data

Abstract
The current study utilized both a top-down and a bottom-up language analysis approach to investigate the linguistic styles associated with different levels of depression among college students’ writing. Depressed individuals used more negative emotion words and wrote in a more tentative way. Results may be utilized to identify depressed individuals.
