A Systematic Examination of Initial Steps in Novel Scale Development

This investigation was a systematic examination of the initial steps used in scale development studies. This study indicated that there are marked discrepancies across studies. A more consistent methodological approach to scale development would benefit the many different subfields that utilize these approaches to improve methodological consistency.
