Pain Impacts Subjective Task Difficulty and Effort-Related Cardiovascular Reactivity during Cognitive Task Performance.

We investigated the impact of pain on subjective task difficulty and effort during a moderately difficult (study 1) or easy (study 2) task. Pain increased subjective task difficulty in both studies. The expected pattern on effort was more visible in Study 2 whereas Study 1 provided insights into methodological issues.
