Fear From Afar, Not So Risky After All? Distance Moderates the Influence of Fear on Risky Decision Making

Abstract

How does distancing moderate the influence of emotions on risk seeking? In three well-powered and preregistered studies, distancing reduced the influence of fear on risk preference and optimism. This adds to a growing line of research on emotion regulation and decision making by examining a relatively under-studied regulation strategy.
