The DSM-5: A Faulty, Yet Ecologically Valid Psychopathology Textbook
- William Woods
University of Pittsburgh
Abstract
Using the DSM-5 instead of a standard textbook in a baccalaureate-level psychopathology course allows students to develop a rich understanding of the current diagnostic system, while encouraging critical examination of the extant system’s widely acknowledged flaws. Sample course design as well as student feedback on this method are presented.
