Wearing a Mask Increases Present Mindedness

Abstract

It was hypothesized that mask-wearing increases visceral discomfort (stuffiness), which may temporarily shift the person’s time perspective. As expected, wearing (vs. taking off) a mask led participants to focus more on the present than the future.
